Using you handy dandy circular needle you will begin picking up stitches along the edge of the neckline by inserting your needle into the edge stitches yarning over and pulling up a loop. Continue all the way around. Make sure you have an even number of stitches on your needle and work in k1, p1 rib for 5 rows. Bind off. Repeat these steps for each of the armholes.
Finishing
Using a tapestry needle weave in all loose ends. This tank must be blocked in order to straighten the pattern stitches out and make them look neat.

Really lovely top!
Added to my to-do list!!! ;)
I love this tank, and I recently started it, but before I go much further I was hoping you could clear something up? For rows 5,9 ect. it says to knit 4 then yo, and the next stitch after will be p1. So, does that mean Im to YO like I normally would when knitting, which WONT create a new stitch/hole, or to leave the yarn on the knit side and then purl 1 which WOULD create the hole. Does that make sense? Your instructions are great and Im really looking forward to knitting this, but if you could clear that up for me it would so great :) Thanks so much for the great pattern!
Bring the yarn to the purl side, then yarn and then purl creating a hole.
Hi Amanda,
I found this through Craftster, and am in the middle of knitting this. It is my first lace project and your instructions are so clear its made it a lot easier than I thought it would be! I kind of messed up the yos in the first half of the first repeat because I knit into the back of them, but I think I'm going to call it a "design opportunity" and sew beads where the holes should be ;o). Anyway you are very talented, keep on designing!!!
I found through your pattern through Ravelry and absolutely love it! I'm adding it to my queue and hope to be able to get to it this winter. :)
Hi Amanda~
Thank you for sharing your beautiful pattern. I am having some trouble understanding the directions for the gauge swatch.
I have asked for help at knitter's review http://knittersreview.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=87763
Maybe you could help me out.
~Patty
I'll look forward to your first Knit/Crochet Book!!! You are very talented!
Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments. Hi Patty to answer your question all even rows from 4-28 will be knit and all odd rows from 5-27 will be purled.
Hi Amanda,
I love your pattern. I am currently attempting to produce the top. I do have one question. In the pattern, are you working in rounds or rows? After working the k1, p1 rib for 1/2 inch, you advise to work the stockinette stitch. If working in rounds, would this just be knitting each stitch for the length needed?
delicious for real. very nice! had to put it in my ravelry queue
Too cute! Thanks for sharing the pattern.
My granddaughters will love this. Thanks.
I ggogled knit tanks...found yours ......LOVE IT !!!!! Just finished my gauge swatch ....and Im using Lion Brand Cotton Ease....

I was wondering if you have a problem with people selling this item? Not the pattern of course, but the item? This is gorgeous and I know I could sell one or two this summer.

One of the things I hate the most about knitting patterns is that there are all these really mumsy patterns - nothing that a sane person would wear on a day to day basis. Your patterns, however are adoreable! They're clothes that people can actually wear! Keep at it girl :) I can't wait to see more stuff!
So cute! I've been looking for a tank top pattern. This might be it!
Oh, this is a very cute tank top, i would love to knit one for myself, is it possible to knit with a short sleeve ?
Gonna try this for my 21 year old. Do you have a face book? if so friend request and maybe you can give some tips on starting youngers ina class!LisaS
I just finished knitting this top and I LOVE IT!!! Thank you so much for sharing the pattern. My knitting sensai loved it too and is going to knit it next. Thanks again!
Just found your super cute tank on Ravelry. Thank you for posting a free pattern. It is so cute! I will spread the word! Cannot wait to cast on! Thank you!
Hi, I would love to make this top as I just picked up 3 skeins of Cotton Plus at a discount at my fabric store. The thing is, to make the small size, I would be at about 4" of negative ease, if your sizes indicate knit size and not actual bust size, which would be fine. I was just wondering if you could clarify which size to do if my actual bust measurement is 38" to get a nice fit, as I don't see mention of if this is the finished size or a "to fit" measurement you are using. Thanks! Your pattern is gorgeous.
Hi, what a gorgeous pattern. I was wondering if you could clarify something on the sizes. Are your measurements the finished size or the size to fit a certain bust measurement. I'd like to do a small as that's the yarn I have but at a 38" bust, that would be quite a lot of negative ease, which would be fine, but if you already have negative ease built in and you mean it will fit the size listed then I can't make a small. Thanks for your help. You have some great work!
Hi Cindy, the finished bust for the size small is 32-34 inches.
Fabulous!
I found your blog after seeing your beautiful Lillian Tank Top on Ravelry. I love your patterns! You are a great knitter! I am going to add your blog to my bloglines to follow. :)

Hi, I don't know if I am overlooking it but is there a gauge written? I'm looking forward to knitting it. I like that the area where the lace starts is high; seems more flattering. thankyou for the pattern- Arlene
The pattern is lovely! And for the other Anonymous, the gauge swatch is listed in the pattern.
Hi. Your pattern is lovely. I've been looking for a pattern for a cami to wear for a wedding party. I have an extra yarn winder. It is very old but it works. If you want, I'll send it to you. Send me some yarn you feel worth the winder and shipping cost from Japan.
I love this Lillian tank pattern! It just knits up so nice. Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful patterns and for writing them so thoroughly a beginner can easily understand.
Hi:
I love this pattern and am 3/4 way done. I did have a question about knitting the back and front. The directions say to knit 42 rows (for small). How many inches is this intended to create? I wasn't sure whether 42 rows would be too much or litte for me, so wanted to see what was intented by knitting 42 rows.
Thanks!
