Pretty in Pink Tank Pattern

Materials
Size 6 24"circular needles
XS, S 4 skeins Sugar'n Cream Cotton Yarn 2 oz in Strawberry
M 5 skeins
L 7 skeins
XL 8 skeins

Bust measurements: I am a 33 inch bust which is a size small according to a chart I looked at and I made my shirt in a size small but now I wish I had made it in an xs. So if you want your tank to fit more closely go down a size. The ribbing adds alot of extra give so its almost impossible to make this tank to small.

xs: 30-34 in. bust 26 in. waist

s: 36-38 in. bust 28 in waist

m:40-42 .in bust 29 in. waist

L: 44 in bust 30 in. waist

xL:48 in bust 32 in. waist

Gauge 8 1/2 stitches every 2 inches done in stockinette stitch

Cast on 120 (130)(140)(150)(160)

1. k3, p2
· repeat row 1 until garment reaches 12(13)(14)(15)(16)

repeat step 2 for 24(26)(28)(30)(32) rows

3. k3, p2 for 35 (40)(45)(50)(55) stitches, k48 (58)(68)(78)(88)k2 pick up 1st k stitch and pull it over the 2nd k stitch and drop it off of the needle(this creates your first bind off) continue binding off until you have47 (57)(67)(77)(87)stitches on the left side of your circular needle. k all of those stitches.
4. ( ws) k2, p across, k last 2 stitches
5. (rs) k
Repeat steps 4&5 for 12 (14)(16)(18)(20) rows
6. (ws)k2, p5, k until you have 7 stitches left on your left needle p5, k2

10. (ws) k2, p5, k2
Repeat rows 9&10 until your strap is 10(10)(11)(11)(13) inches long, bind off on the k side
To work the other strap you will need to start working from a new ball of yarn, work rows 9&10 until the strap is the same length as the other, bind off on the k side.

Cute! I love it! And it's so cool that you used Sugar n Cream yarn. I love that yarn for summer stuff!

Awesome! This is really cute.
I saw it a while back when you posted on craftster and now that I've come across a 1lb bag of worsted cotton I can't wait to make it!

I have one question -- is the guage guideline stockinette or 3x2 rib?

I can't wait to get started! I think I may use this as an excuse to order some new KnitPicks circulars. ;)

OMG! I have spent the last two hours cruising the net trying to find a free pattern for a tank that I'd like to knit for myself. I have finally found it! Thank you. I'll post a picture on my blog when I get it started/finished if you want to check it out.

I'm knitting this cute tank and I have a question on the instructions. Step 4 says to (ws)k2, p across, k last 2 stitches.

The question is how many do you purl? Do I assume this means one purl?

Thanks for the pattern and for the help.

Amanda said...

P across means "purl across the entire row"

This was my project while I was in the hospital last July and I am just picking it up again (had some issue) to finish it! It is super-cute and I am sure I will post a pic when I am done (and I am hoping it will be soon! I want to wear it before the weather gets too cold here.) Oh, and I used to live in Pittsburgh too - Mt. Lebanon...

My aunt used to live in Mount Lebanon years ago. I'm glad you're out of the hospital and I hope you're feeling well. Enjoy your tank!

Hi Amanda,
I love this tank and am making it with the Sugar 'n Cream Swimming pool colors. It's knitting so easily and the yarn is so affordable! I have one question about you pattern...I'm knitting this in an XS and I'm still on step one. For step one I've cast on 120...and it says to keep knitting until you reach 12. Is this 12 inches?
Thank you for the pattern!
Jasmine

I'm new to knitting, and came across your pattern. It's really cute! But I'm having some difficulty interpreting your instructions. Under step 1 you say to k3 p2 until garment reaches 12, is that 12 inches or 12 rows? Also when I add up the number of sts for step 3 it doesn't equal 120 (35, 48, 47 = 130) was I suppose to increase somewhere? Also for step 3 when you say to k48 k2 pick up 1st k sts and pull over the 2nd k sts, do you mean k48 then k2 pick up, etc. or do you mean k2 pull 1st sts over 2nd sts until you've done this 24 times? I'm sure I'll have more questions once I manage to get that far! Thanks for the help!

Do you have a picture of what this looks like from the back? Based on the instructions it looks like the back and the front shouldn't look the same.

I'm a new knitter and your work is so inspiring! I also lived in Pittsburgh for 5 years while attending PITT (2000 grad) and have great memories of it. I look forward to your book this summer or whenever it's ready. Visiting your blog just makes me want to practice, practice, practice!!! Thanks for sharing with us.

I love this tank I am going on a road trip and I want a project to work on, do you join the stitches after you cast on, or is it on big rectangle that you sew together? I love the look of it. thanks

Amanda said...

Its knit in the round from the bottom up.

I just simply love this tank, thanks so much for sharing the pattern. I am now making a slouchy style tank top and I am mixing it up a bit using your armhole method; however your designs here are awesome and I cannot wait to finish this one I am designing now to try one of your patterns from start to finish. You do a wonderful job, thanks again!

I completed this pretty tank, and I love the way it came out. It is a pretty simple pattern to work with, and it looks so pretty on!!!!! Thanks again.

I didn't do the #4: K3 p2 for 35 stitches...I just kept doing the k3p2 for 30 and then BO. Same effect. I'm a 34 bust, 29 waist and an xs fit me just fine. You're right, the pattern does give a lot.

This turned out BEAUTIFUL! It was my first attempt at clothing and I really didn't have much faith in myself, but you made the pattern so incredibly easy to read and it turned out lovely. You did an excellent job!

I may make this in a size small, with a lightweight acrylic blend because it's so pretty and simple. I love it. Thank you SO much for sharing! (pics on my blog, 'Yay me!' post 5-18)

Hey Karen I just checked out your finished tank and I think it looks great. I like your color choice it looks more sophisticated than mine in pink.
